As parents, you don’t have to have a complete understanding or know-how to help children feel creative and take to Art and handicrafts, what a parent needs in a child is an open-minded attitude about the process of creativity and a willingness to explore, discover, and learn new things.

The difference between Art and handicrafts

Arts and handicrafts are inter-related, but are different activities. Painting a picture and making a macaroni neckless, shows that arts and handicrafts are really quite different. While art is an open-ended and unstructured activity, handicrafts are goal oriented and is a structured activity. Good art and handicraft workshops in Sri Lanka will provide both activities, and allow children to explore and learn. In a nutshell, handicraft activities are product oriented, engage cognitive skills and problem solving and require specific materials and instructions. Whereas, art activities are more process oriented, engage imagination and feelings and use basic supplies and open-ended instruction.

Children enjoy both the process and the final product that is taught in the art classes in Sri Lanka.
