Yummy Avacado Smoothies
- Most Suitable for: Babies between 6-8 months
- Ingredients:
- Ripe Avacado (make sure the skin isn’t damaged or has dark spots). You can also use banana or papaya for this.
- A little formula or Breast Milk
Method
- Wash the fruit thoroughly and cut open with a clean knife
- Scoop the insides of the fruit out with a clean fork.
- Mash the insides with the fork (do not blend)
- Mix a little formula or breast milk for added flavor.
- Serve fresh- never serve refrigerated leftovers to your baby.
Beet and Curd Delight Is Never Enough
- Most Suitable for: Babies between 8-10 months
- Ingredients:
- 1 small beetroot (small or medium beetroots taste better than large ones)
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened yoghurt or buffalo curd (always check the manufacture and expiry dates when purchasing).
Method
- Wash and peel the beetroot
- Pressure cook or boil the beetroot until you can poke a fork through it.
- Process the beetroot together with the
- Yoghurt or curd until it is a soft pinkish pulp.
- Serve fresh.
Mixed Mashed Veggies
- Most Suitable for: Babies between 8-10 months
- Ingredients:
- 1 small beetroot
- 1 medium potato (or sweet potato)
- 1 small carrot
Method
- Wash, peel and boil the beetroot, potato and carrot until soft
- Mash the beetroot and potato, and mix together
- Dice the soft boiled carrot and sprinkle over it.
- Allow to cool and serve fresh.
Sprat and Veggie Blend
- Most Suitable for: Babies between 10-12 months
- Ingredients:
- 2 table spoons cooked red rice
- 2-3 small pieces of peeled and boiled pumpkin
- 2-3 small pieces of peeled and boiled sweet potato
- 2-3 boiled dried sprats – remove heads and all bones before boiling
- 2-3 leaves of steamed spinach
Method
- Add all the above together with a small pinch of iodized salt
- Blend together until a soft pulp
- Serve fresh
Baby Rice Porridge
- Most Suitable for: Babies between 8-10 months
- Ingredients:
- 1/ 4 cup red rice
- 2 ½ cups of water
- Small pinch of iodized salt
Method
- Clean the rice and ensure there are no stones etc
- Wash the rice several times until the water is clear
- Put into a saucepan with the water and salt
- Bring to boil
- Once the rice reaches boiling point bring to a slow simmer
- When the rice has broken down, it should look like small soft broken pieces.
- Purée the mixture in a blender until there are no lumpy pieces
- Serve fresh
